10 Tips To Choosing The Perfect Sorority

Choosing a sorority can be difficult, especially when there is more than one to select from. In the excitement of a new place and a new school, it may be easy to forget the important things to consider when making such an important decision. However, these 10 tips will keep you on the right path to choosing the best sorority for you.

1. Select a sorority that suits your lifestyle and social preference. Many sororities are based around religion, future plans and common goals or interests. In an effort to make the most out of your college experience, selecting a sorority that is right for you will be the best way to improve your college experience.

2. Make sure that you pledge to a sorority that is one in which you are comfortable with, and enjoy the company of, fellow inductees. Members commonly live together in one house, which is why it is so important to get along with the other members and enjoy having fun together.

3. Select a sorority that will provide you with a rich experience in friendship and guidance in school work. College is hard work and friends will be there to pick you up when the rest of the world seems to be holding you down. Fellow sorority sisters are there to help you through challenging times, congratulate you during your times of triumph and push you to do the best that you can.

4. Avoid selecting a sorority just because your friend is pledging and you want to be with her. This is the absolute worst way to select a sorority, simply because joining a sorority is a choice that must be made by each individual. If you were to base your decision solely around a friendship, you may find that there is little else that will benefit you personally.

5. Select a sorority in which the members share a common goal or interest. This will help you to stay focused and allow you to participate in activities that are important to you, which will improve your college experience.

6. Walk away from any sorority that asks you to participate in any physically dangerous activities during initiation. While most of these have been banned by sororities, it is important to know what to do if a situation should arise that you do not wish to participate in. College is about learning first and foremost and should never be about proving yourself to others who ask you to do anything that may jeopardize your physical well-being.

7. Make sure that you understand behavioral, academic and housing requirements of a particular sorority before accepting an invitation to join. It is important to realize what will be expected of you and to ensure that there won’t be any surprises.

8. As a general rule, individuals can only pledge to one sorority at a time. Make sure that your choice is the one that you really want to be a part of.

9. Choose a sorority that is focused on fundraising activities that are important to you. This will result in you being able to help with a cause that you are passionate about and feel enriched with the experience.

10. Select a sorority that will improve your academic experience and not distract from it with questionable behavior or activities. A sorority is about sisterhood, common goals and interests and improved learning.
